Ronald McDonald to Kickoff Sojourner Truth Walk-A-Thon

GARY, IN - State Senator Earline Rogers will chair the 10th Annual Walk-A-Thon to benefit Sojourner Truth House, a day center for homeless women and their children in Gary, Indiana. The annual fundraising event will be held on Saturday June 6, 2009, at the Gleason Park Golf Course, 34th and Jefferson Street, in Gary. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and the Walk will kick-off at 9:00 a.m. Registrations are being accepted for individual and team walkers, and are $15 per person. Corporate Sponsorships are also available.

GARY, IN - GARY, IN – World-famous Ronald McDonald will join Senator Earline Rogers to kick-off the 10th Annual Walk-A-Thon to benefit Sojourner Truth House, on Saturday June 6, 2009. The Walk-A-Thon raises money to support Sojourner Truth House, a day center for homeless women and their children, located in Gary.

Ronald McDonald will arrive at 8:00 a.m. and will lead participants in his signature “Get Movin’ with Ronald McDonald,” a high-energy, motivational warm-up program prior to the kickoff of the Walk-A-Thon at 9:00 a.m. The Get Movin’ program will start at 8:20 a.m. during registration. Other entertainment scheduled during pre-kick off includes Lady Sax (Ernie Shelby), DJ Jonathon Moorehead, and WGVE radio host Damion Smith will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Ronald McDonald is said to be the second most recognized figure in the world, behind Santa Claus. He visits sick children in hospitals and chronic care facilities throughout the United States, and he is officially recognized as the “Chief Happiness Officer” of the McDonald’s Corporation. Adults and children alike delight in Ronald’s appearances in his colorful yellow, red, and white costume, and oversized red shoes.

Ronald McDonald’s appearance is sponsored by the McDonald’s Owners of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana.
