On April 28, 2009, the U.S. Senate and House came together to present a Congressional Tribute to Sojourner Truth at the Capitol Visitor Center, which included the unveiling of her statute. Notably, the celebration featured such participants as Michelle Obama, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Sheila Jackson Lee, Harry Reid, Bishop Vashti McKenzie, Cicely Tyson, Lomax Spaulding and Yolanda Adams, and others.
